well i'd better blog about my last day in beijing before i fall asleep!
we started off slightly later than usual at 830. our destination was yong(1) he(2) gong(1), the lamasery.
it was a rather small place, with loads of pple praying at the temple and insence burning everywhere. it gave me a headache after a while and i was glad to be able to get out of there. unfortunately, it was only 10 when we left, a bit early for lunch no?
we asked the parking attendant where was good to go for a quick look and he said there was a confucian temple nearby, so off we went!
turns out, it was the imperial college, but adhered to the temple on the left, school on the right concept. or is it the other way round. sorry, brain too tired to process normally. it was nice, though once again a lot of things were under construction. either way, we took a quick trip round, before it hit about 1030 and we headed off for lunch.
lunch was at this vegetarian place. unlike vegetarian stuff in sg, the food wasn't very oily or very salty, which was a refreshing change. we had mock pork and mock lamb kebab. the lamb tasted REALLY authentic i must say. we also had a mushroom dish, dan dan mian, another spicy bowl of noodles, dragon fruit soup, bamboo, and loads more!
after that it was only 12+ and we still had a bit of time to kill before we headed to the airport. so we decided to go to di(4) tan(3), the temple of earth. like the temple of heaven, it was dedicated to the worship of the earth gods, and sacrificial ceremonies took place here. however, the alter here was square compared to the round one in the temple of heaven. the chinese believe that the circle represented heaven and the square earth, which resulted in the different sizes.
after a quick tour, we piled back into the bus to head to the airport. thank goodness they let us bring everything on!
we touched down at 10pm sg time, where a nice bed awaited me.
sunday brought a lovely surprise, my brother called at 1pm to say that he was coming home for the evening! we couldn't be more pleased. he was due to stay in camp through the weekend to wed, before he could take the rest of the week off! another pleasant surprise was that he said he'd be coming out on tuesday night instead of wed! so he'll be home earlier than expected. not that much earlier i suppose, but when you haven't seen your brother in 8 months, you take whatever time you can have.
2 more weeks left in sg! hope i make the most of it!:)
