okie. dinner update. 1stly, i must reinterate: traffic jams are no joke in beijing. we spent 1 and a half hours on the road to get to a restaurant which was NEAR the hotel. (remember we took one hour to go to the ming tombs 50km OUTSIDE beijing)
we had to 1st search for uncle august, but we got so lost that he decided to walk to the restaurant by himself and he managed to get there before us! good thing they saved the table for us though. they were quite insistent on putting a set time on the booking we made for dinner.
huang(2) cheng(2) lao(3) ma(1) (imperial city's mother?!) is apparantly more popular than fei teng yu xiang (where they called us at 745 to see if we were showing up for our 8pm appointment!). it's a hotpot aka steamboat place in beijing. quite posh for beijing apparantly, but it's a mid-range price for quality food in s'pore terms!
we had: fish balls, prawn balls, fish, bamboo pith, beef, cucumber, mushrooms, chicken, tung o, kangkong, lettuce, tau kee. they had 2 types of soup, one was damn spicy (with dried chillis thrown in and all that) and one was the most expensive soup there (fish and SEAHORSE soup)
it was a really lovely dinner and dad managed to get the bill this time!
after that we went to uncle august's fav bar, Centro at Kerry centre. it was way nicer and the waitresses uniforms were really, really interesting. why? because they were all casual clothes. funky dresses, or funky tank tops with knee length skinnies and fishnet stockings! i had 2 mango daiquiris this time round (they had rum! i love rum!), and they were quite tasty i must say!
well it's time to sleep. have to leave at 7 tmr to try to get to mao's thingy and cover, summer palace, yunnan food, lamasery, and jap food by tmr! till then, God bless everyone!
