drove myself to work (after doing some recon last night) and begun my rotation in plastic surgery!
it's certainly really interesting, with various procedures i hadn't seen before, everything from implants to reduction, botox to gels, to tummy tucks and face lifts. it was quite a wide range for just one day. the thing is, i didn't feel as if it was a long day, we were in and out pretty quickly, which doesn't really give you time to stop and think!
plastics has always been something that i pooh-poohed (not the reconstructive bits, just the cosmetic bits) cos there are a lot of ethical dilemas, and i think it's not really a medical medical specialty.
but Dr Blanchet is lovely, and she's really very ethical for a plastic surgeon. if she thinks you don't need the surgery, she'll tell you that. and she's very careful as well. if you smoke and you haven't quit for a certain period of time, she won't do the surgery due to the increased chances of infection. she even tests the patient's urine to make sure they aren't lying. insurance in the US doesn't cover complications due to cosmetic surgery btw, nor would they cover breast reduction unless you say you had back/shoulder pain!
ended ard 2pm. i got home and drove myself to Panera bread, bought a mango drink, and here i have been for the past 2 hours, checking mails and blogging.
tmr is surgery at the clinic, i'll get to see removal of skin cancer, lipo, breast stuff. it should prove pretty interesting!
hopefully i'll be able to get off early tmr and come back here to email.
have to go off and buy some b/fast before heading home to do some laundry.
