Dr John Verheul is a dutch doctor who has been practicing medicine in the states for 27 years. He told me they study Dutch, German, French, English every morning and the math and sciences are taught in the afternoon. No history, geography etc. they have ½ hour break between the morning and afternoon. And they had to join sports or music clubs outside school if they wanted to do anything like that. At 13, the state decides which college you go to. At 13!!! That’s way too young. Medicine is supposed to take 6 years to do, but pple usually finish within 8 years, depending on your rotations.
Man, they had a hard life!
He was really nice though, and explained the whole health system to me. Do you know he has to charge 400+ bucks just so he can claim about 200+ bucks from the insurance company?! That’s ridiculous! All the names of the drugs are all different though, so I had to ask the Dr a lot of things. Oh well, better be inquisitive and learn something, rather than to be totally passive and switched off. I’m here to learn after all!
Had weird hours though, day one was 9am to 3+pm, day 2 was 1:30 to 9:20pm, day 3 was 10am to 6+pm. But either way, that left me not with the group this week. Quite a shame, but I couldn’t help it. Either way, Friday night we went to Baileys (the pub which can recognise Carl cos he’s been in 3 times in one week alone) then we headed into Richmond and went to a couple of pubs and a club. By then the guys were pretty smashed. I passed on the drink as I’m a little under the weather. Aaron was the designated driver of the night, so I had non- drinking company.
*beams* huggies to all! miss all of you!
