that pretty much sums up the week so far. i've been a bad bad blogger i admit. this week has really been too weird not to blog about.
this week marked my 1st week at southern general hospital (SGH). and damn it... we ran straight into a road block. literally. they closed the road leading to the expressway that we needed to get on to even GET to the southern. hence we were stuck in traffic, and were late for the 1st PBL of the term. :(
tuesday:
a fulfilling day at the GP as usual. saw a lot of interesting cases. Parkinson's and Motor Neuron disease. both with no cure. sad. esp since drs think my grandma may have Parkinson's. they've not confirmed it though. if she has it, let's hope she doesn't suffer from the various side effects that the drugs have. i seriously may not be able to take it and just break down. grandma has lived such a turbulent life in her younger days, working long hours to support her 5 children, then had lymphoma and now dysphagia (problems swallowing), Meniere's disease (ear disease that makes her very giddy and nauseous) and this? i know she's feeling quite down. and can only hope and pray that she puts her trust in the Lord and that the Lord will watch over her.
had high hopes that issaam would go to cell grp gathering on wed. have been praying quite hard for the event. then disaster struck. one of his football mates, this guy who was in my year in medicine got whacked by a baseball bat and landed himself in the ITU (intensive therapy unit if i'm not mistaken). he died the next morning. understandably issaam wasn't up for dinner. pray for matthew's (the boy who passed away) parents and family. to lose a child so young so suddenly... i can't imagine if it were to happen to me.
wed:
was feeling a little down that none of the folk i invited could go :( but hey, it was a great chance to meet new pple and i had cooking to do! tried lee kum kee's char siew sauce as marinate for my chicken. it was a hit i'm happy to say! after that stayed back to help clean up the place (alfred is a champion dish washer btw!) and we stayed and chatted with ash and chris till like 2am in the morning. bev was the 1st to KO prompting our departure.
thursday:
the best news ever! I had applied to a hospital in virginia for my elective. apparently they had to choose 10 places out of 16 candidates. AND the rumour was that they preferred 4th years. and they mentioned they'll give us a reply the end of last week. things weren't looking good. then an email came in to say that we got selected for the july elective! the timeslot we wanted for the eletive we wanted! if that's not motivation to study i don't know what is!
friday:
seriously started some studying. hope this continues through for a while *fingers crossed* there's a mock exam on wed as well. oh bugger!
