when you think of CNY, what's the 1st thing you think abt? me? it's: "mmmmmmmmmm... foooood"
heehee, thus was the motivation to make the year 3 s'porean/m'sian medics (most of them... but that's another story) + darling louisa dinner the most ab fab one yet!
so it was that Mr Aaron Goh and Ms Charlotte Tai set out after a gruelling session on "how to examine the eye 101" to Cowcaddens where the mecca of Chinese food was... Matthew's and Chan's supermarkets.
(N/B: apparantly Matthew and Chan are brothers who fell out, so they now run seperate supermarkets. and apparantly these supermarkets are also the front for other more... nefarious activities *shrug*)
With our budget in mind (10 quid each person, hence the total budget was abt 80 quid), we shopped till we nearly dropped, popped home briefly to dump all the food and have a nice hot lunch (for it be a very cold day that fine Friday), before we headed off to Morrisons to get the whatever else we needed.
Total bill: 67 quid!
Wah big savings right? WRONG. with a ginormous capital W.
1st my flatmate's bf pulled out... but that i'm ok with cos i jsut forgot to check my mobile and anyway.... 10 x 7 is still 70 quid... so we still turn a profit right (eh we bought and prepared the food leh...)
then, my darling ex-roommate calls HALF AN HOUR before the dinner is abt to start and says,
"sorry i'm busy and have other stuff to organise so i'm not coming"
i was super pissed lor. what a way to screw us over. if she doesn't come then everyone has to pay extra. did she even THINK abt the actual trouble she was gg to cause everybody?! i think it's really irresponsible to call us just half an hour before that and actually expect everything to be hunky-dory. if she knew she was going to be oh-so-busy, then why couldn't she have called us before we went and got the food. we're not so stupid as to buy the food on the day of the dinner itself, much less half an hour before dinner starts! we're all students ok, we don't have money to throw ard. it's just cos it's chinese new year and we thought it'd be nice to have a gathering since we don't see each other that often during the term. That totally ruined my CNY mood (yes, this was even after i won half a kilo of bak kua).
But hey, when you're surrounded by wonderful friends (who for once all showed up early, except maxworth hu you scumbag! but he's forgiven cos he told the best jokes that night haha)... it's hard to stay annoyed and angry. Just because my mood is ruined doesn't mean it should be ruined for everyone! Plus, once the conversation (and the food) started flowing, carol's deed was soon forgotten (plus as max says, CNY you're supposed to forgive everyone) haha.
The VERY filling dinner was followed by 15, an s'porean movie abt gangster youth, there were funny bits, touching bits, ewwww bits, and very artistic/huh-inducing bits... not a bad movie for a s'porean movie. very art house. and an insight into the lives of teenage ah bengs i'd never thought i'd get (whether or not it's from true stories or not i'm not sure)
to end off, i'd like to quote my dear friend nev nah: Huat ah!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
