gosh i haven't blogged for so long... where to start!

well i'm back in the very sunny glasgow.. where chilly weather and sudden drizzles are our way of life.

the flight vback proved rather tedious. not because it was a long haul flight, but cos i had a really swollen left eyelid.

which brings me to one of my (many, as some would say) quirks: i'm allergic to bird's nest.

i had suspected it when i was a kid. there was this time i drank some weird processed bird's nest with ginseng and i had both my eyelids swollen shut! that sucks man, though the lids graciously left a little space so i could still see. just with some difficulty. at the time i had thought it was the ginseng.

well as luck would have it, i was wrong. dead wrong.

i drank a bottle of bird's nest that my grandma gave me before i headed out for the airport. big mistake. en route, my eyes started watering and my nose starting running. i told the folks abt the allergy, but they thought i was exaggerating.

oh well. as luck would have it (again), they were wrong. (though i really wish they weren't)

my LEFT eyelid started swelling up. damn paiseh man. everyone was staring at me like i was some freak. this includes: the counter lady, my lovely fellow passengers, aaron's family and friends (though i think they were too polite to say anything).

at least aaron's sister cracked a good one: "is she allergic to anything else? like diamond rings?"

as luck would have it (the joke's on you this time aaron), i'm not allergic to any type of metal, and most certainly not diamonds. they ARE afterall, a girl's best friend.

P.S. Changi really sucks when it comes to shopping and medical assistance. i could not get anti-histamines till i reached dubai where they actually had an OPEN PHARMACY. honestly, you can't really be THAT world class can you if a passenger can't get some drugs into her system! (teehee!)

the swelling only went down a few days later. and that's when the mighty flu bug struck.

am currently in possession of:

1. two partially deaf ears
2. one slightly runny nose
3. one throat that may or may not itch
4. one cough that erupts rather aburptly, mostly at night.

kinda annoying, but this is much improved from previous days when i:

1. under-medicated, leaving me partially deaf
2. over-medicated, leaving me with a REALLY bad runny nose. my nose is so raw from the blowing as a result.

well, non-drowsy sudafed expectorant seems to be doing it's job really well now. i can only hope i'll be well before the 1st half of term is over.

am currently doing a head and neck anatomy module. 3 out of 5 days are spent in the dissection room. lovely smell. both on the cadaver's head and neck (currently sawed off the body and through the middle so each group gets half a head to work on) and on our clothes. does marvellous things for one's social life. especially if you discuss it over lunch. "so did you manage to take the skin of the eyelids and see the muscle?" i admit medics aren't the best company over lunch.

it's also been a rather weird experience. you're not back to work proper in year 3. but it's a brillant way of easing us back into work after partying 3 mths away in the sunny island of Singapore.

another weird experience. i was walking along the street when i felt this really old man lean into me. i thought ok, maybe i'm in his way, i should move. esp since he was moving/sliding dangerously close to my... upper torso. (yes i thought he might have been some sort of weird old perv)

so i moved. as luck would have it (damnit!), the man continued sliding, fell towards the pavement, scrapping his neck against a metal box before hitting the ground head 1st with the head bouncing off the pavement rather quite violently!

WAH LAU! i was terrified man. well, I DIDN'T TRIP HIM. and i made that clear. esp since aaron asked me outloud "did you trip him?"

well i didn't. luckily this woman agreed to help him back to his place. how weird!

i'm well stocked up with food for at least the next few weeks. esp since i don't have much money.

banks take forever to transfer money. and i won't get money till the weekend. i haven't paid my sch fees. nor do i have a matric card. i'm an "illegal student" or "provisional student" as they prefer to call me. oh well. hopefully the cheque won't bounce after i hand it into the registry. (they're really horrible, nasty, inefficient people!)

that's all from the land of the clockwork orange! (that's what they call the MRT in glasgow)
