Anyhow... It's quite late now but I'd just thought I'd blog about my experience since as my Year 1 Co-Ordinator said... It's my first day as a professional or something to that effect... Basically... He was talking abt how we as all actually part of the profession now... "Baby doctors" he calls us! We even had to sign up for medical protection... In case we get sued haha... Can you imagine... NOW we're signing up for this stuff already!:P
Anyhow... I began my very long day with my matriculation at the main castle like building... It's pretty on the outside... ABJECT HORROR on the inside.. WHY?! cos that's where I took my matriculation photo haha.. It's actually ok inside lah... I look like SHIT man... *SIGH*... My face isn't in the middle of the photo... Why the photographer so lau pok one... And this pic will be used for FIVE FREAKING YEARS LOR... *SIGH*
Then I headed over to the medical school building... Gorgeous glass building.... And no worries.. It was gorgeous inside too... I picked up a lot of stuff like my syllabus and various publications that have been imposed upon me..... eg, intro to clinical examination... 1st aid manuals and some med council stuff...
Then I headed over to the Western Infirmary Lecture Theatre (WILT for short).. The Western infirmary is actually a hospital... And yes the biggest lecture theatre is there... The ones in the new building are small... So the 266 of us sit in 3 rooms and 2 rooms get to see the lecturer on an OHP screen.. kinda like video conferencing! Anyway, the head of year gave us an intro speech on what to expect
After that we headed back to the Wolfson medical school (the nice glass building) for MORE talks on student support services (library, sports hall, career guidance, enterprise, etc), how to study in the uni and of course the all impt PBL... Problem-Based Learning is a critical part of our curriculum.. And we learn from that more than anything else... We only have 1-2 lectures on Friday in fact... Each lasting 1 hour... And we have NO TESTS!! haha... NUS students... Eat your hearts out! haha... Ok lah... Should be nice to them since they are my peers after all haha...
Then I got to meet my study advisor... Dr Andrew Rankin.... A cardiologist at the Royal Infirmary ... Seems like a nice enough guy....
so I started my day at 10 by walking down to matriculate... And ended at abt 6... So the day's over right... WRONG... I still had to go to the doctor's to register for my GP... So ended at like 7+... Then had to rush home to cook dinner... Ate in a hurry and then rushed off to the Glasgow University Union (GU for short) for a few drinks... NO limz.. I'm not turning into an alcoholic... But vodka + diet coke is NICE haha.... Had 2.5 cups lah... So here I am... My friends having decided to leave after a REALLY short while I was there cos they angmoh version of a party is well DIFFERENT haha... Not really my scene... They were teaching some sort of ball room dancing downstairs haha... So weird but oh well haha....
and NOW at 2222hrs... Here ends my entry after emailing a whole bunch of pple.. And hoping to receive a whole bunch of mail from OTHER pple *ahem*
Reading a new book now "Forget you had a daughter" by Sandra Gregory.. who foolishly trafficked drugs and was put in the horrible Lard Yao (the Bangkok Hilton) Possibly one of the worst prisons on earth...
The fact that her parents didn't give up on her despite all the wrong she did... REALLY touched me... and made me realise how much I want to do my folks proud! I really want to... it also made me a little homesick... but i felt incredibly fortunate that i have access to my family still.. that i'm not behind bars.... shall resolve to keep in contact with as many pple back home as possible... always treasure those at home man... real touching book... sigh....
'Kay then... Till next time!:P
